The Insurance Commission of Western Australia is the State’s only Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurer and our Motor Vehicle Personal Injury Division (MVPI Division) manages all personal and fatal injury claims resulting from motor vehicle crashes that involve Western Australian licenced vehicles.

Australia-wide, Motor Vehicle Third Party Personal Injury Insurance is compulsory and it is commonly known as Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance.

This should not be confused with third party property damage insurance, which is neither compulsory nor provided by the Insurance Commission.

The Motor Vehicle Third Party Personal Injury Insurance Policy is combined with the motor vehicle licence of every WA licenced motor vehicle.

The relevant legislation is the Motor Vehicle (Third Party Insurance) Act 1943, with the administration of this Act being the responsibility of the MVPI Division.
