Eligibility

To be eligible for necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support from the Catastrophic Injuries Support scheme as part of Western Australia’s expanded motor injury insurance you must meet the following criteria.

Interim and Lifetime Participation

All people catastrophically injured in a motor vehicle, who are unable to identify another driver at fault, can make an application to become a participant in the CIS scheme.

Motor Injury Insurance Treatment, Care and Support (CIS)

Following your crash you may require ongoing treatment, care and support services. The Insurance Commission offers funding for necessary and reasonable services required for your crash related injuries.

Motor Injury Insurance Treatment, Care and Support (TPIF)

Following your crash you may require ongoing treatment, care and support services. The Insurance Commission offers funding for necessary and reasonable services required for your crash related injuries.

Continence

It is common for continence issues to arise following a catastrophic injury. The Insurance Commission supports clients to enhance their continence independence.

Education Support

Following your crash you may require various additional supports in continuing your education.

Care Services Coordination

The Insurance Commission is focused on providing care and compensation to people injured in vehicle crashes so they can return home, to work and the community. A Care Services Coordinator from the Insurance Commission will assist you to plan and coordinate treatment, care and support during your rehabilitation journey.

Service Providers

The Insurance Commission coordinates and funds lifetime treatment, care and support delivered by service providers to people catastrophically injured in motor vehicle crashes.

The Insurance Commission and service providers share a common goal to support people with catastrophic injuries to meet their rehabilitation and independence goals.

Client Charter

The Insurance Commission aims to work with clients, providers and health professionals in a respectful, fair and professional manner. We endeavour to ensure clients receive necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support for their crash related injuries.

Dispute Resolution

All people catastrophically injured in a motor vehicle crash who are unable to prove negligence against a driver or owner of a vehicle, can apply to become a participant in the Catastrophic Injuries Support scheme.
