Anyone who experiences catastrophic injuries as a result of:
- a motor vehicle accident in WA, on or after 1 July 2016; or
- a workplace accident in WA, on or after 1 July 2024,
may be eligible to receive support from the CIS Scheme.
The CIS Scheme is a no-fault scheme. This means we can provide necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support regardless of who was at fault in the accident, as long as you meet all eligibility criteria as outlined in the Motor Vehicle and Workplace Accidents (Catastrophic Injuries) Act 2016 and Motor Vehicle and Workplace Accidents (Catastrophic Injuries) Regulations 2016.
According to the Act and Regulations, a catastrophic injury includes:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Multiple amputations
- Severe burns
- Permanent traumatic blindness
