10 years of the Catastrophic Injury Support Scheme
For the past decade, the Catastrophic Injury Support (CIS) Scheme has helped people rebuild their lives after life-changing injuries. Behind every rehabilitation journey is a person, a family, and a future that deserves the opportunity to thrive.
As we mark 10 years of the scheme, Strength in Stories celebrates the courage, determination and resilience of the people whose lives have been supported along the way.
Since its introduction, the CIS Scheme has provided eligible people with access to essential lifetime treatment, care and support following catastrophic injuries. This support extends beyond medical recovery.
It helps people regain independence, reconnect with their communities, pursue education and employment, strengthen relationships, and continue building meaningful lives.
The stories featured here reflect the many different paths recovery can take. While every journey is unique, they share common themes: perseverance in the face of uncertainty, the power of support networks, and the belief that life can continue to grow and evolve after significant injury.
These are stories of people who have adapted, achieved new goals, rediscovered purpose, and found strength in places they never expected.
Because with the right support, hope is not just possible, it thrives.
