Assisting recovery from Cyclone Zelia

WA cyclone warning sign

19 February 2025

Almost 40 damage reports have been received from Government agencies due to the impacts of Cyclone Zelia.

To date, damage has been mostly roofing leaks, flooding and property loss. More reports are expected over coming weeks as assessments continue.

Support is already underway thanks to the Insurance Commission engaging an insurance damage assessor prior to the cyclone crossing the coast.

According to Chief Executive Rod Whithear there are numerous Government assets in the Pilbara, including schools, hospitals, police stations and ports.

“We are here to support the agencies and help them recover from loss or damages as quickly as possible.

“More than $90 billion worth of State assets are insured across WA,” said Mr Whithear.

Over coming weeks, the Insurance Commission will continue to help agencies by providing funding for repairs to affected community assets.
