How service providers collab with the CIS Team

Service Providers

The Catastrophic Injuries Support team and our registered providers share a common objective in supporting participants with catastrophic injuries to meet their rehabilitation and independence goals.

Person-centred approach

Every participant in the Catastrophic Injury Support Scheme has a Care Services Coordinator and a Claims Officer who work in partnership with the participant and their nominated representative. This will enable the development of an appropriate plan to address the treatment, care and support needs arising from the motor vehicle or workplace accident. Care Services Coordinators prepare a care plan for each participant. The plan sets out the approved treatment, care and supports for a set period of time for the participant. Where applicable, the participant may be able to select their preferred registered provider from the options available.

The Insurance Commission will not fund any treatment, care or support that is not assessed as meeting the criteria of necessary or reasonable in the circumstances or provisions which  have not received pre-approval.

Participants who have a Compulsory Third Party claim may discuss alternative case coordination options with their Claims Officer or Legal Team.

Service Delivery

Equipment requests valued over $1000 require completion and submission of the Equipment Request Form, with an objective assessment of functional need, evidence of product trial and completion of an appropriate risk assessment.

Assistive technology and equipment valued under $1000 and meeting the following criteria may be requested by an email to your Care Services Coordinator:

  • Considered low risk;
  • Compliant with the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods; and
  • Available from a WA based distributer.

Provider plans are issued to service providers once services are approved and detail the services, expected therapeutic outcomes and equipment pre-approved  in a set period of time, i.e. the plan dates.

Role of Providers

  • Ensure services provided reflect the participant’s needs and goals and are provided in line with approved plans.
  • Maintain effective communication with the participant and the Care Services Coordinator.
  • Work collaboratively with the Care Services Coordinator to ensure participants receive services that are reasonable and necessary, and address their treatment, care and support  needs related to their motor vehicle  or workplace accident injury needs.
  • Request in writing any additional therapeutic services, assistive technology or equipment needs not currently included in the participant’s care plan prior to purchasing.  Advise the Care Services Coordinator promptly of any cancelled or unattended appointments prior to the submission of the invoice and on the booking of any subsequent appointment.
  • Provide Therapy Service Plans and Therapy Reports inclusive of client SMART  (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant & Time-Bound) goals, progress notes and outcome measures.
  • Submit invoices in line with the invoicing guidelines on the Insurance Commission’s website.
