Cooking dinner for families seeking treatment at Perth Children’s Hospital

Staff volunteering at Ronald McDonald House

In late 2019, ten Insurance Commission staff spent the evening preparing dinner for families staying at Ronald McDonald House.

The House offers a ‘home-away-from-home’ for seriously ill children and their families while they are receiving medical treatment at Perth Children’s Hospital.

Team members from the Insurance Commission’s Catastrophic Injury Support (CIS) scheme cooked the meals.

Some of the Insurance Commission’s clients spend time at the House when receiving treatment for their catastrophic injury received in a vehicle crash.

Maria Dramen, CIS Scheme Manager explained the importance of the volunteering effort. “Families staying at Ronald McDonald House are going through a very tough time. With their days spent at the hospital, preparing dinner is the last thing on their mind. It was very rewarding for our team to do something to support those families, and to better understand what our own catastrophic clients go through when seeking treatment.”
